GARMIN and GARMIN EXPRESS and MAC AIR 11' (el capitan)
ISSUE:
there appears to be a documented and repeatable issue with GARMIN MAPINSTALL and the 11' MAC AIR which makes it IMPOSSIBLE TO UPDATE MAPS.
normal installation from maps should be as follows:
open MAP EXPRESS
click prompts to get to map install screen
click on VIEW DETAILS
click on INSTALLATION OPTIONS
select 'COMPUTER and DEVICE'
at this point you should have a CONTINUE button prompt at the bottom of the display screen.
DESCRIPTION:

the issue is as follows.
the default vertical dimension of the display screen at this prompt is 900 pixels. the maximum vertical dimension of the mac 11' is 768 pixels. so you cannot access or see this CONTINUE prompt. hiding the dock does not help. unfortunately this prompt is not activated by hitting the RETURN BUTTON.

in SOME cases restarting GARMIN EXPRESS will let you see another prompt that is ABOVE the CONTINUE button but i do not believe this will allow you to see the CONTINUE BUTTON so you are fully stuck in the mud as it were.
SOLUTION:
the solution to this is somewhat tricky but is as follows:
1. start (or restart) SETTING on the mac with the OPTION /AND/ the COMMAND keys held down.
2. click on DISPLAY with the OPTION /AND/ COMMAND keys held down
3. click on 90 degree or 270 degree orientation
4. click OK
5. run through the prompts in GARMIN EXPRESS
NOTE: there appears to be an additional bug that i have not worked out where the KEYPAD on the mac air does not behave rationally with repsect to the movement of the mouse on the screen. this is quite tricky to navigate a the mouse moves left and right opposite to the movement on the keypad and it also moves up and down opposite to what you would expect on the keypad. i am testing this but if you have a method for resolving this i would like to hear about it.
